The Thatcham System, Tracking & Telematic’s.

 

With most of my customers, the reason they are calling is to satisfy their insurance brokers. So lets start there. What have they asked for? Before I start All systems will alert the monitoring beureu of theft. But they do so on different levels.

 

Thatcham category (S7) was Category 6 more information here:

 

These Trackers offer a range of features from a simple track and locate, to live tracking. Thatcham Category S7 is a GPS, GPRS and GSM stolen vehicle recovery system which has a movement sensor for its trigger along with a battery backup in case the vehicle battery gets disconnected enabling you to still track the vehicle at all times. If this is all your insurance company require this is a great affordable option to protect your vehicle. I can Also put in an interrupter switch this will up the security but it will not be passive and you will have to remember to switch it on and of course off. Each time you move. The system auto alerts beureu if the vehicle doesn't see the vehicle ignition on movement. Not full proof (keyless attack overcomes the system Hence the switch! Pro’s it’s the cheapest of the range with the cheapest airtime, great quality kit wise as with all below you get a great app so you also know where your vehicle is.

 

To repeat. A hidden ignition isolator switch can also be installed to alert bureau of theft. This is not passive and will require user to activate / deactivate.

 

Finally on the S7 this can be made into a great product when linked to the TASSA approved Ghost 2 canbus Immobiliser. The Ghost not only does all the brilliant things that it can do but also controls the S7 safe to move status. See my package price here: ULTIMATE PROTECTION.

 

Tracking: (S5) a notch upwards more information here:

 

The S5 Tracker is essentially an S7. However to move the vehicle you will have a registered app that de-activates the systems parked status and allows the vehicle to move without notification to the beureu. The system also comes with 2 D-ID cards. A press on the button will allow tracker to move without alerting the beureu. providing a lot more security (unless you leave your phone in the car or it gets stolen with the keys!!!). Cons Price goes up along with the yearly airtime.

 

Tracking: (S5 plus was Category 5) another notch upward more information here:

 

The S5 Plus Tracker is the highest level of Thatcham approved theft recovery with all the same qualities as the S5 plus has a built in immobilisation facility. The Tracker will not allow the vehicle to crank until the safe to drive app (or card) as been activated. This is a cut on the crank to stop the starting of the vehicle. Unfortunately cutting the engine while running is not allowed for safety reasons (a pity but HayHo).
